Optospan BiDi Box 5 is the industry´s first bidirectional fiber optic link converter with virtually no signal loss. The BiDi Box 5 instantly converts any duplex optical link into a simplex one suited for bidirectional communication with less than 1dB loss. It works with any Duplex or CWDM transceivers operating within the 1510nm ~ 1610nm wavelength spectrum.

BiDi Box Series model 5 (BIDI-T01SXL-055) Description

The BiDi Box 5 seamlessly integrates into your current switch and router environment as it is totally transparent to existing transceivers and networking equipment from OEMs like Cisco, Brocade, Alcatel, Juniper and others. Simply connect existing transceivers from switch or router to the BiDi Box 5 system on each side of the link to instantly convert your dual strand link into a single strand fiber, optimized for bidirectional optical communication.

Unlike CWDM or DWDM Multiplexers that reduce your network distance up-to 40km by introducing as much as 3.5dB signal loss on each side of the link, the Optospan BiDi Box 5 only adds less than 1dB signal loss. This results in a much longer distance network, eliminating the need for costly repeating or higher powered communication equipment, and the facilities to house them, in between.

By eliminating one strand of fiber, you effectively double the bandwidth of your current long distance communication environment, or cut your current fiber optic communication cost in half, or use the second strand as a backup link.
